Keep repeat audio out of captions.

If another bot reads chat messages aloud, Mimiq can accidentally caption that bot and repeat the text. Tell Mimiq which users or roles to ignore; everyone else stays in captions.

Ignore a role

This is the easiest setup for an external TTS bot. Give that bot a Discord role such as TTS Bot, then have an admin with Manage Channels run:

/captions ignore-role add role:@TTS Bot

Mimiq ignores audio from anyone with that role—human members or bots—before sending it for transcription.

One message, no duplicate caption

  1. A member types “Meet at Waterdeep.”
  2. A TTS bot speaks that message in the voice channel.
  3. Mimiq skips its audio so the message is not posted again as a caption.

Ignore one user instead

For a specific account, without creating a role:

/captions ignore-user add user:@Name

Choose the user in Discord’s command picker. The rule applies only in this server.

Multiple users and roles work together

Add as many as you need, one command at a time. Mimiq ignores someone if their account is listed or they have any ignored role. You can use both lists at once, with up to 50 users and 50 roles per server.

/captions ignore-role list

Check which roles Mimiq is skipping.

/captions ignore-user list

Check individually ignored accounts.

/captions ignore-role remove

Select a role to include its members in captions again.

/captions ignore-user remove

Select a user to include them again, unless they still have an ignored role.

Good to know

  • These rules affect Mimiq’s live transcription only. They do not mute anyone, stop another TTS bot, or change text messages.
  • Ignored audio is not sent for transcription and does not appear in new captions or recaps. Captions already posted are not erased.
  • Changing a rule during a call closes active speaker streams. Mimiq checks the rules again on the next speaking turn.
