Teach Mimiq your server’s names.

Add character names, places, or other unusual words once. Mimiq uses the written term to help live captions recognize speech. Add a “say as” spelling when you also want it spoken differently in TTS and auto-read.

Add a name

In your Discord server, an admin with Manage Channels runs:

/captions vocabulary add term:Waterdeep say_as:WAW-ter-deep

Use term for the correct written spelling. Use optional say_as for a plain-language phonetic spelling. If you leave it out, captions still get the hint, but TTS uses its normal pronunciation.

This is server-wide: it applies to everyone using captions, /tts, or auto-read in that server. Other servers have their own lists.

Example term: Waterdeep · Say as: WAW-ter-deep

Someone says it

Mimiq gives its speech recognizer “Waterdeep” as a hint. Captions are more likely to show the name as written.

Caption: Waterdeep

Someone types it

Their message still displays “Waterdeep.” For audio, Mimiq sends the “say as” spelling to the TTS voice.

Spoken hint: WAW-ter-deep

Change or check an entry

/captions vocabulary pronounce

Set or change say_as for a term you already added. Provide the term and new say_as options.

/captions vocabulary clear-pronunciation

Keep the caption hint but let TTS pronounce the written term normally.

/captions vocabulary list

See the saved terms and any “say as” spellings. The list shows ten terms per page.

/captions vocabulary remove

Remove a term and its TTS pronunciation from this server.

What to expect

  • The dictionary is a recognition and pronunciation hint, not a guaranteed correction. Try a phonetic spelling that reads naturally in the voice you use.
  • You add one name or phrase at a time. Free servers can save 5 terms; Mimiq Pro servers have no term-count limit. Live recognition uses up to 1,200 characters of hints at once.
  • If captions are already running, an edited vocabulary is used when a speaker starts their next speaking turn.
  • Speaking a name to Mimiq does not teach it a pronunciation. Enter the “say as” spelling in the command.
